"The only courage that matters is the kind that gets you from one minute to the next."   - Mignon McLaughlin, writer

When I wonder what the future will bring me, the answer is clear -- my life will be exactly the same tomorrow as it is today. Unless I do the interior work -- right now -- to change.

It is a mistake to think that the path to change is through planning what I will do in the future to make my life better -- get a better job, buy a house, be more compassionate. True change does not follow what I do in the next moment -- it flowers from the seeds I bring into the next moment. The more of "me" I bring into the next moment -- my plans, my pains, my pleasures -- the less room there is for a new, different, changed me to emerge. I must use every last ounce of my awareness and energy towards getting me from this moment to the next properly -- without any trace of my "self" in it. Energy spent on any other activity is wasted energy.
